This table provides information of social and economic indicators for Canada, Japan, Peru, Zaire in 1994, according to a statistics from United Nations. There are 4 indicator in the table, which are "annual income per person", "life expectancy at birth", "daily calorie supply per person", and "adult literacy rate".
It is obviously that the numbers of Canada and Japan were much higher in all the indicators than those belonged to Peru and Zaire in 1994, while Zaire was always the lowest one. Japan had the highest life expectancy at birth, which was 78. It was only 2 years more than Canada, while it was 27 years more than Peru and 31 years more than Zaire. In Japan and Canada, 99% of people were educated, while Peru had 68% and Zaire had only 34%. People lived in Japan earned 15760 US dollor in 1994, which was 1/3 more than people in Canada. In the same time, Peru and Zaire people could only have 160 US dollor or lesser. On the other hand, Japan people took approximately 500 lesser calories while Canada residents was taking 3326 calories everyday. Meanwhile, most people in Peru and Zaire was not even taking more than 2000 calories.
All in all, this table shows that people living in developed countries had a much beter life quality than those who was living in developing countries in 1994.
This bar chart shows how many hours that different categories of people spending on unpaid work like childcare, house chores, and gardening every week.
It is clear that, no matter how many children they have, married men are always doing 18 to 19 hours unpaid chores per week, which is much lesser than women.
For women, with and without children are totally different situation: both married and unmarried women spend more than 50 hours on those work every week if they have child. Once they have more than 3 children, it will be higher than 55. Meanwhile, women without children are doing chores less than 30 hours.
The uneven loading between men and women may reflect that women are being expected to do more unpaid work for their families due to social and cultural expectation.
